Colourful Crabs

Another set of beautiful sculpts from Archon Studios, tucked away amongst a whole host of other miniatures in a Dungeons & Lasers box.

There's something special about painting miniatures for smaller encounters. Over time, I've learned that not every detail needs to be perfect, and not every tiny feature needs to be individually picked out. Of course, I'm still a perfectionist, and I won't call a miniature finished until I'm happy with how it looks!

These crabs are a great example of finding that balance.

I started with a zenithal highlight, then randomly layered two different Contrast paints to create variation across their shells. I let the colours flow over the coral, nets and barnacles rather than painstakingly painting every detail individually, before reinforcing the brightest areas to bring everything together.

They were some of the quickest miniatures I've ever painted, yet they're also some of my favourites.
